# Myth II Gameplay Foundations — Local Digest **Captured:** 2026-09-16 **Source:** Local Myth2Bot knowledge pack at `C:/Myth2Bot/knowledge/` **Status:** Confirmed in the source pack for beginner guidance; this is a local fan reference, not an official Bungie manual transcription. ## Unit roles - **Melee fighter:** holds a front line and pressures nearby enemies; vulnerable before contact and against careful ranged fire. - **Ranged fighter:** applies pressure before melee contact; needs protection and readable spacing. - **Demolitions / area damage:** disrupts groups and controls space; friendly-fire risk makes placement part of the attack. - **Spellcaster:** changes a fight through special effects; timing and protection matter. - **Support unit:** improves survival or utility for nearby allies; usually weaker alone. - **Fast assault:** uses mobility to pressure exposed targets; can overextend. These are role descriptions, not measured statistics or matchup guarantees. The public Unit Field Guide remains the place for named Myth II units. ## Multiplayer basics Scout before committing the full force. Protect ranged and explosive units, avoid clumping against explosive threats, use terrain to control movement, preserve veterans, learn routes and chokepoints, and communicate with teammates. ## Co-op basics Agree who controls explosive units, avoid fighting for control of the same group, call out dwarf movement, preserve healers and veterans, and do not rush an objective before the group is ready. Scripted waves and ambushes reward coordination over speed. ## Tag foundation The local core describes a basic relationship of **Unit → Monster/Object**, with Mesh defining what a map can use. A Monster alone is normally not enough to make a gameplay unit appear. Keep projectile chains separate from the beginner unit chain, and remember that plugins can override existing data. ## Provenance and limits Source files: `C:/Myth2Bot/knowledge/gameplay/unit_roles.md`, `multiplayer_basics.md`, `coop_basics.md`, and `core/myth2_fundamentals.md`. The source pack labels several glossary definitions TODO; those remain excluded from settled claims here. Adjacent `beginner_guide.md`, `units_light.md`, and `units_dark.md` files were reviewed on 2026-09-16. They remain draft, generic role guidance and are not promoted as new canon, measured statistics, or faction guarantees.
