Ink with a pulse.
“Rubber-hose” describes the flexible, curving limbs that make these performances so elastic. Watch the drawings—not just the plot.
See it in the picture excerpts ↗Closed red curtains reveal two original theater mascots. Ink tips his cap while Flicker starts the projector. A suspended screen lowers, a beam from his lens lights a three-two-one countdown, and the title reads On with the show. The ushers bow and the curtains close. Silent original animation with subtle grain, scratches and brief reel-change cues.

01 / THE LITTLE PICTURE HOUSE
Start small. Look closely.
There’s magic in every ink line.
These are 40-second picture-only excerpts, not complete films. Soundtracks are held for further review. Screenings and film stills are available in the U.S.
02 / MEET THE ORIGINALS
These are frames from the reviewed period films—not newly invented “vintage” character artwork. Our ticket and projector ushers are new decorative creations.
03 / A VERY SHORT HISTORY
Animation didn’t have to imitate life.
It could misbehave magnificently.
“Rubber-hose” describes the flexible, curving limbs that make these performances so elastic. Watch the drawings—not just the plot.
See it in the picture excerpts ↗Dizzy Dishes brings Betty’s early dog-eared appearance into a restaurant. Fiddlesticks introduces Flip on a woodland stage.
Duke’s historical context ↗We check the work, the edition and the actual asset. Later drawings, added music, dubbing and restoration additions need their own review.
How copyright-status research works ↗04 / NO MYSTERY REELS
Our basis is the original works’ expired U.S. copyright terms, supported by named research and publication evidence—not an upload label. Screenings and film stills are restricted to U.S. visitors; the written history is available worldwide.
The projector and ticket mascots are original AI-assisted decorative artwork created for Guiles Works. They are decorative originals, not period artifacts or depictions of the collected characters. The clapper mark, layout and motion are original site code.
Ink & Flicker is an independent Guiles Works concept, with no studio sponsorship or affiliation. The historical characters are identified only in connection with their original films.
Artwork brief and production record ↓Still in the research drawer: additional early Betty films, exact Popeye/Olive Oyl comic editions, and early Oswald shorts. They are not part of the playable collection.
05 / AN INDEPENDENT PASSION PROJECT
A small illustrated museum by Jesse Guiles / Guiles Works. Not a studio, not an official character brand, and not a claim to own these historical works.
